Hydronic Heating
A traditional motorhome heating system consists of one or more propane furnaces that blow forced air through ducts which feed floor vents as well as the basement areas containing water lines and holding tanks. In addition a separate hot water heater is supplied which can be run off either a propane burner or electric heating element. If your RV has heat pumps, that's a part of the air conditioning system so we'll just skip over them for now. Hydronic heat also provides hot water as well as heat so it replaces the hot water heater as well as the furances.
Hydronic heat is a more recent innovation in motorhomes. Initially, hydronic heat was available in the bus conversions and very high end coaches but it's now becoming more popular as it filters down into the diesel pushers, such as the Allegro Bus. Hydronic heat is a different kind of system and offers a number of advantages over conventional heating and we'll discuss the various features and functions in the following links.
